It explores modern approaches to discourse, definitions given in various fields, and its application in linguistics, particularly in literary and official contexts. The study is based on theoretical views in the field of linguistics and examines various perspectives on this term as presented by Western and Eastern scholars. The article also discusses the social functions of discourse, its communicative characteristics, and how it manifests in formal institutional settings. Research conducted in Uzbek linguistics, especially by scholars such as Sh. Safarov and A. Pardaev, is examined in detail. The article provides an objective analysis of oral and written forms of official discourse, their differences, and their roles as communicative tools. Moreover, it reviews current directions in discourse research based on both international and national studies.
