The article discusses the importance of using problem-based learning technology to develop students' creative abilities in Russian language lessons at higher education institutions, modern types of methods used to develop abilities, such as: broad, comprehensive, consistent and convincing expression of one's own point of view, as well as the influence of a creative approach on the personal and professional development of a student. The article discusses the features of teaching a language, its potential as a tool for creative self-expression, as well as specific methods that contribute to the development of imagination, creative thinking and independence of students.
